Dr. Guita Hourani virtually presented her preliminary research findings on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on obituaries at the IX Congreso Nacional e Internacional de Escritores y Lectores por el Líbano. Her paper provided a thought-provoking analysis of how the loss of loved ones during the pandemic has reshaped homeland-diaspora family connections, particularly focusing on changes in death announcements, burial rituals, condolence practices, and the use of social media and technology. The conference, organized by the Center for Studies of Lebanese Diaspora and Immigration (CEDRAL) in collaboration with the Lebanese Social Center of Mar del Plata, was held in Argentina from September 13 to 14, 2024.
